Welcome
to the "Riding the Wave - The Wave Riders "
Newsletter. http://www.thewaveriders.com
Everyday,
"The Wave Riders", and the many readers that write
to me, enter my thoughts and my prayers. It has taken me many
years to determine what it is that The Wave Riders Theory
is really about. I believe now that even more so, I have clarity
of purpose.
-The
Wave Riders is NOT about teaching how to manage a disease.
-The Wave Riders IS about teaching how to live with balanced
creativity.
The
Wave Riders teaches how to
-
Observe your creative energy habits - so that you can learn
to adapt them to you benefit.
- Create without chaos - I believe no burn out = less depression
- Design your life to meet the needs of your creativity -
if you are more social on Monday'...good day for meetings
- Make decisions that will match your real passions - not
decisions made from over-optimism or depression
- Take the correct action steps for the downtime, uptime and
middle of the creative wave
- Maintain balance and breathing.
- And there is more
.
So what does this mean?
It
means that I do not believe in a disease called bipolar disorder.
I believe that the bipolar tendencies are a by-product of
creativity and the push to succeed. I do not minimize the
effects of the up and down pattern - it will create chaos
if a person is not aware of these tendencies and not trained
to handle their own adrenaline induced creative and aggression.
Here
is how The Wave Rider theory works
We
pump adrenaline into our bodies on a daily basis. We all have
different triggers and different amounts of "injected
adrenaline". It might be a simple compliment that releases
the happy, feel good adrenaline chemicals into our body. We
like the feeling
so, what do we do?
We
want more, and so we actively seek out the things that trigger
our release of adrenaline.
At
first this drug feels better than any drug, legal and illegal,
on the market. It boosts our energy and allows us to think
and move with grace and speed. We see clearer and think clearer;
problem solving with precision like an air traffic controller.
It feels really good. We can accomplish so much and so we
want to keep accomplishing
even if it means that we will
make one more stop on the way home to pick up a few more things.
With lightning speed we make decisions on purchases and can
multitask without skipping a beat. We drive carelessly and
push our way through people and places.
Without
conscious thought to why we feel the way we do we evaluate
ourselves as "better" when we are in this adrenaline
based action mode and we take whatever steps are necessary
to maintain our "pumped up state".
Thoughts
fill our minds. Thoughts like "I work better under pressure"
(because you induced adrenaline to be able to deal with the
pressured problem) and "I have found the answer to everything"(adrenaline
makes you see more optimistically). Ideas flow to us - each
idea offering the answers to our problems or maybe the world's
problems - we see "SALVATION" for us, for our friends
- for everyone.
The
high energy from the adrenaline now pushes us to talk faster,
move faster, do more, phone someone, draw, paint, write, make
business deals, and create new companies. Gotta go, gotta
go
.this is how it feels. The level of adrenaline might
be a mild push or it might be so intense that you cannot stop
talking, driving, going, doing, phoning
.you must do
this thing - right now!
Adrenaline
living - We do everything
except breathe.
We
can be seen talking for long periods without slowing for regular
breathing and may be seen taking a periodic gasp for air between
statements. At this time we think we are doing well. We can
hear ourselves but not stop the chatter - the push to talk
is strong as if someone else is in control.
Our
brain is deprived of oxygen, the body begins to wear out,
and lack of coordination slips in as the adrenaline wears
off. Aware of our reducing ability we reach (not for rest)
but for anything that will keep us high in energy; sugar,
shopping, sex, drugs, alcohol
anything to stay "up".
You can observe this in yourself at night, as you tire you
reach for more snacks....a fast solution to the low energy.
We
might succeed, temporarily allowing our high energy to continue.
We might even, in our younger years, be able to ride this
wave for years
.barely stopping until one day
.
The
high-achiever tries to take his life. No one understands why
(s)he suddenly "drops out". Lawyers, bankers, business
people, mothers, fathers, kids
..it happens to all ages,
all levels of income and equally to men and women.
You
might hear observers say "he was such a mover and a shaker",
"he had so much going for him", "he worked
so hard". (A new baby and children can also push us to
these limits of energy creating depression)
I
see an increase in this pattern and it explains why depression
and mental illness is also on the rise. Why?
We have taught our children and ourselves to overachieve but
not to balance and breathe. We have not been taught how to
recognize ourselves at the various levels of productive energy.
We have been taught to use all of efforts in a continuous
flow of activity without reserving capacity
.and we are
burning out
.we are taking it as a personality flaw and
believing it is only us hat feels this way. We hide our shame
often never realizing that the majority of people in the world...feel
the same way.
We
close out the world and we lose what we have fought so hard
to keep
.our success. Often we struggle to main balance
in our finances and our relationships.
The
Wave Riders teaches us to live with our abilities. Being a
Wave Rider is a badge of honour not something to hide away.
In the past the only mistake we made was not learning how
to pace ourselves and learn to live with our creativity before
the devastating low and loss of income, friends and family.
It
is my hope that more and more of us will learn to live happy,
productive lives - being the best that we can be, because
we accept who we are and we are determined to balance the
creative energy.
Oxygen
- "The new drug"
. Breathing slowly and deeply
as simple as it seems can balance out your adrenaline rush
and still allow you to be creative. It may be very difficult
at first but with determination and practice it gets easier
and for the first time in your life you may actually get to
meet the real you. Not the adrenaline based you, nor the depressed
exhausted you
but the balanced you - a wonderful, witty,
calm, creative and productive you. Knowing when on the wave
to make decisions can help you to avoid getting into situations
that you do not want to be involved in.
Boring
is in depression - not in mid-line balance so don't let your
drug addicted brain tell you differently.
