March Message:
The article this month is about using anger as a catalyst for
change in our lives.  In The Wave Riders book we talk about using
Joy and Faith-based motivation and not fear-based motivation
to create the lives that will help us to honour our gifts and our spirit.
Anger is fear-based and so  these two comments may appear to be
conflicting views.

It is true that Faith-based motivation is required for sustaining success
generating energy, however, often when we have been "down in the
dumps" for a very long time we cannot find our Faith and we cannot
find our joy.   When Faith and joy are absent  anger is usually abundant
and sometimes it is this anger that will get us off the couch to do
something about our situation. Once motivated into action we can
choose to walk in a direction based on Faith not fear.

Ponderings:
Decision Making:
If you are new to The Wave Riders Bi-polar phenomenon and you
have entered some confusion about when on the wave to make life
changing decisions let me offer some help.

I wrote that you should not make a decision that will greatly effect
your career, your relationships or your world when you feel really good
(up) and do not make these same decisions when you are feeling
really bad (down).  Can't do it when I am up and can't do it when I am
down, so what is left?

It is very important that you look at your life and your decisions when
you have returned from the excitement or you have returned from the
depression because each stage of emotion has a distorted view of
your world and how you really feel about things.  It is just as if your
body has been on drugs.  In the up state you might be "high on
adrenaline" and in the down state you might be going through a lack
of "happy brain chemicals" - a type of  withdrawal from the high.   You
cannot view and judge correctly any person, place or thing, in either
stage and so you must wait until you come to a place of calm -
the middle place - neither up nor down to view, analyze and decide on
what will truly work for you.

Use the words - "Let me think about this and I will call you in a few
days" or "I have to check into a few things let me get back to you",
to delay the decision making process long enough for you to
check your level on the wave.  In the moment of a new career offer or
a new home to purchase you may feel that  you are okay and you
know the answer to the question, but if possible stall anyway and give
the decision as long as you can to insure that you are in the right frame
of mind for making a decision that you may have to live with for a very
long time.

Sometimes we are pressured to make decisions quickly and in the
beginning of designing our new lives the process of returning to the
middle could take weeks, even months before we are really in the
right place to make these decisions.  This is especially true if you
have been depressed for years.  The more you know about yourself,
the more you can make a plan for the life you really want then the
less time it will take for you to check with yourself  and your plan
before making these type of commitments.  In the meantime
remember that nothing is ever as good as it seems (this should
help to bring you down a bit) and nothing is ever as bad as it seems
(this should help to bring you up a bit). Then take the time to make
good decisions base on your knowledge of your needs and not your
emotional surges.

In time and with practice, you will be able to trust yourself and your
decisions because you will be making the right decisions for your
mind, your body and your spirit.  You will in turn enhance the lives
of those around you because you will be in tune with your natural self.
You may think that this process removes spontaneity and it does, in
the beginning.  But when you know your true path from your middle
place then you will be able to be confidentially spontaneous, as
opposed to spontaneous with guilt or anxiety.

    Today's Gentle Reminder
    =====================================================

As you are learning to ride the wave remember:

Finding spiritual faith does not mean that your life will be painted
in pristine white, that your children will be perfect in human terms,
that your friends will act as they should or that no one will ever suffer
and no one will ever die.

What finding spiritual faith does mean is: that you accept that your
imperfections and your friends imperfections as right  for your
experience at this time and you understand that hidden beneath
every hardship is the gift of a greater lesson; even though the pain
    feels unbearable right now.

You accept that living and dying, coming and going are all part of the
never ending cycle and though your cry for the loss you feel, you continue
on because you understand, without guilt, that all of us must go in our
own time - and why that time? - is beyond our understanding.

You sense that we are all connected never-ending actors and actresses
    in each other's life lessons.

Having spiritual balance does not mean that we do not make mistakes
     - it means that we understand that our mistakes are necessary for
our growth and with that understanding we learn and improve rather
than remain in our past mistakes, wallowing forever without hope.

Learn what your can from your mistakes and forgive yourself.
Learn what you can from the joy of your friends and family and when
sorrow comes, allow yourself to heal then move forward again.

When bad things happen it is not because we are being punished.
It is because bad things happen and from it we will grow.

Creative Anger - A catalyst for change

...If you do not feel the deep motivation for change you may,
internally, have made a decision to stay where you are. In other
words, you have been invited to the party but you have decided
already not to go. For some reason you like the comfort of this
place, this situation or this relationship.  Maybe, in your mind, it
is safer to stay with the pain you know rather than risking change
and the unknown terror that comes with that change.

    Question and Answers
    =====================================================
    Question:
    Is bi-polar disorder, manic depression?
    Answer:
The medical profession seems to now group the symptoms of bi-
polar moods( up = manic) and (down = depression) in the same
wording as manic depression, which gives way to the general public
tending to believe that someone with bi-polar mood swings must
hallucinate, have violent tendencies and be absolutely insane.
Not so!  Doctors understand that there are varying levels of bi-polar
disorder but when we use the word "manic depression" the general
    public gets scared.

One of my goals is to reach out to people that think that they are not
bi-polar just because they do not have the extreme cycles of emotion.
Even small bi-polar mood swings can make us not enjoy our lives
and influence how we see the world and make our decisions.

The Wave Riders was not written to solve the problem of  hallucinations
and violence of the highest wave but to help many people whether
bi-polar, or not, to create better lives by learning to effectively rider their
own waves no matter how small.

The philosophies in the book can help and have helped many people
whether they ride they are bi-polar, or not, to live better lives. I use the
term "Bi-Polar phenomenon" because of the increasing number of
people showing signs of the up and down mood swings.  These people
are not insane. They are normal, intelligent and creative members of our
    society.

I believe that bi-polar mood swings should be understood as the
normal evolution of the mind and spirit coming in to have greater
access to universal knowledge.  The "problems" occur when we do
not understand what is happening and how to handle each stage of
the mood swing created from this evolution.

It seems to me that once you look at the bi-polar mind as a mind
evolving you will also see that many minds are included and some of
these minds experience very high manic periods while the majority of
these minds experience mild to moderate manic periods.  Each level of
emotion can effect lives in minimal or catastrophic ways. I believe that
the highest of waves will need medication because it may be beyond
our current capabilities to be able to breathe down such a high
adrenaline rush and that the distortion from this rush could make
    reality difficult to understand.

The Wave Riders Book teaches us to be proud to be bi-polar
Wave Riders and not to be embarrassed and miserable
    "manic depressives".
