These assignments
are based on the book "The Wave Riders" (order
here), and it does help if you have already read the book.
Don't worry if you have not as you will find a lot of good
information here that will help. If you missed the beginning
of the online workshops here is where we started...

So far, in our
assignments, we have charted our waves and determined what
areas of our lives we would like to improve. Now, it is time
to begin our Life Plan based on what we know about ourselves.
We need to make our plan that will allow our lives to continue
to move forward regardless of what mood we are fighting at
the time. Good planning helps you to create a better future
and helps to prevent things created by up energy, such as
overspending.
I find that by splitting my resources into the Past, Present
and Future that these three areas of my life begin to move
forward simultaneously rather than solely being focused on
the future at the cost of today. We sometimes spend all of
our money or energy on yesterday's bills and today's needs
that there is nothing left for the future. Without a plan,
we could spend all of our days dealing with the same problems
rather than moving forward.
Your assignment is to take the
different areas of your life that you have listed, in assignment
5, as important in your life, and begin to make plans to improve
these areas by dividing your plan into three sections: the
past, the present and the future. I have included some examples
below.
Finances: Divide the
money coming in, into three.
· Past: Bills that you owe: credit cards, other
debts.
· Present: Things that you must pay: utilities,
food, shelter
· Future: A minimum of 10% of everything you
receive goes to improve your future or to add security
Try dividing your financial
resources into 3. By doing this your past debt is being paid,
your current bills are paid and your future is becoming more
secure one tiny bit at a time. I know, many people might say
that they cannot afford to put anything away for the future
- I say you cannot afford - NOT-to put anything away for the
future and if you cannot do 1/3rd then 10% should be more
do-able. That means if you get $20.00 then you put away $2.00
Ask any financial advisor and they will tell you that you
must pay yourself first. This does not mean avoiding your
bills - it means include yourself as one of your bills.
Yes, I know that maybe that
is the difference sometimes between milk in the fridge and
no milk
but your mind will find a different solution
pretend
that the $2.00 does not exist! - Get the money into a secure
account that you cannot easily get a hold of - your future
depends on it! As you earn more money, your future savings
grows at a faster pace as now you are receiving $200.00 and
putting away $20.00. Another, tip (I think from Suzie Orman,
financial advisor) is to never spend your change. This means
that whenever you go to buy something - use bills. Change
is easy to spend; breaking a bill will make you think twice.
Place credit cards in a block of frozen ice that will make
you slow down long enough to have to thaw out the card. Try
not to make purchases on a high ride. In this state you are
far too optimistic to make good purchasing decisions.
Home:
Divide your energy and time into 3 - give a little each day
to all 3 areas.
The mess you created yesterday: Clean up old projects
and boxes unsorted.
The cleanup you need to do daily: Keeping your environment
clean can make you feel better.
What you would like for your future: improvements -
plant a seed. Find a tiny area of your home, garden or balcony
and think of small ways that you can make it better. If you
are saving for a new home, then start cleaning through old
stuff to make the move easier.
Relationships:
Past: Apologize to people that you hurt and forgive
those that hurt you. Forgiving is healing - for you and not
for them. They do not even have to know that you have forgiven
them. Not forgiving them holds you to the past - and if what
happened was painful then why would you want to stay there?
Present: People currently in your life - decide what you
can do to take better care of the relationships in your life
right now. Call a friend. Make regular times for visits. Look
at the friends that you currently have
.do they enhance
your life?
Future: Decide to improve your relationships by working
toward altering your work schedule to have more time with
family. Perhaps you would like to attract someone into your
life or to make more friends. Have you decided to make new
friends that see life in a more positive way? Find clubs where
like-minded people will be or take a course on a subject that
interests you.
Self:
Past: Damage you have done: overeating, over partying.
- Forgive yourself -let it go.
Present: Things you must do to take care each day:
brush your teeth, hair - do not let depression stop you from
taking care of yourself. Taking care of ourselves can help
us to come back to middle faster.
Future: Create a firm plan to improve for the future:
insert fitness or set up healthy recipes. Make your life plan
automatic. In other words, if you have decided to set the
alarm early to go for an early morning jog then do not let
your mood stand in your way. Get up and get going - without
thought or option. Decide that you must do it and get it done.
Do not give yourself the option of backing out.
Community:
Past: Clean up anything that you created in the past.
Present: What does your community need each day?
Future: How can you improve your community?
By dividing your resources,
you will find that all areas of your life begin to improve
simultaneously rather than leaving one area alone to fester.
These examples are some of the ways that you can begin to
make your plan work by dividing your focus and resources into
three - now it's your turn to start making your Life Plan.
Remember to set some of these things on automatic pilot as
much as possible so that they will not depend on your mood
to succeed. Insert things like auto deductions from pay-cheques,
friends that pick you up for workouts and dogs that force
you to get out and walk.
