Negative
Verbiage and the Permanent State of Being

Let's have
a little fun today and collect the nasty things that we say
to ourselves. Lets plunk these words that we use as weapons
on our psyche directly onto our supper table to view and digest
them for what they really are. Let's start to look at them
with the understanding that they are simply wrong, useless
for moving forward and dangerous attacks on ourselves. Let's
learn to laugh at our negative statements rather than to give
to them power or to welcome them into our reality.
I would
bet that you think you are alone in you nastiness to yourself.
At times, you think that you are alone in your world; you
are uniquely awful, uniquely useless and uniquely ugly or
old. You think that YOUR life is simply different from everyone
else's life. Somehow, the human-being design process really
messed up when it made you, because you are simply never going
to be happy enough, or smart enough or useful enough. You
will never amount to anything worthwhile.
There are
millions of people right now allowing these thoughts into
their minds.
We all do
it. Some of us can easily walk away and some of us take these
negative thoughts as real statements of who they are.
The ability
to recognize that these statements are not true, and the ability
to realize the uselessness of the words used, allows us to
walk away from the debilitating pain attached to these thoughts.
Focusing on the lack of talent, beauty or wealth convinces
our brain that this lack is our truth and this judgment is
what your brain will use to determine what you can or cannot
do. It will use this negative ammunition to help you make
decisions about your life, love, money, community and careers.
Here is
a sample of some of the negativity that we share.
- I would
have never been created because no matter how hard I try
I am unable to live a happy life - In the end none of it
matters
- No matter
how much I pray, plead, beg, and request from God, delivery
from negativity, I remain at my core a defeated soul.
- I am
ashamed and embarrassed to say that I hate that about myself
I can't stand that about me
I still am making
stupid decisions
- I am
too stupid to change, to learn or to do anything new
- If I
do something I enjoy I will never make any money at it.
- I am
the victim
and by all indications things related
to these circumstances will never change...there is no real
purpose
that is the true reality. The illusion is
in hoping I actually matter - when I don't.
- I'm just
bored to absolute tears that this is what it always comes
to...a perpetual boring, unproductive, uncreative, mediocre
life not worth living.
- I am
no longer desirable. I never have been desirable.
- I am
too old to be hired or I am too young for anyone to hire
me.
- I am
too cynical to ever be in a relationship, no one will ever
love me.
- Nothing
interests me - I will never find anything that I enjoy doing.
- I just
do not have it in me or I just do not have the time.
- I am
too fat to beloved. I am too skinny to be loved.
- There
is no use when the world is so full of hate and destruction.
These ongoing
permanently based statements are simply not true, though I
will admit they certainly seem true when we are feeling down.
The exhaustion makes our mind give into the negative emotion.
The brain has used up all remaining stores of the happy chemical
"serotonin" and so your brain makes you see your
world with this "dooms day" view.
These negative
thoughts do not have value. They are not constructive criticism
they are demeaning and I hope that you would not allow anyone,
including yourself, to speak to you in this way!
These negative
statements will not help you to solve a problem, nor will
they make you younger or make you look better.
These are
the little things that spew from our mouths as we pout about
our world. We absolutely must not allow ourselves to roll
this negativity around on our tongue. We are not "avoiding"
problems; we are simply refusing to focus on problems that
are exaggerated due to a state of exhaustion! Visualize yourself
as that tired child who is seeing nothing but the bad in their
world. View yourself acting out the negative dance and tell
yourself to stop being so hard on yourself and get some rest.
Often we forget about the exhaustion and just focus on this
negativity until someone else points out that we are tired.
If the problem is real then we can find solutions when we
are at the middle of the wave, neither up nor down, because
we cannot correctly solve our problems when we are down. We
will also not make the best decisions when we are pumped full
of adrenaline and riding our optimistic high wave. There is
no point in worshipping the negative because you cannot solve
it from the bottom of the pit...let these statements go!
Let's learn
to take our statements that have tell us that we are forever
less than we can be and change them to show our minds that
the future can be different. Get rid of the words that illustrate
the permanent condition. These statements often contain the
words "never", always and is.
Let change
them to transitional statement such as: I will learn, I will
try, I will become.
Take for
example the difference between these statements.
- I'm
just bored to absolute tears that this is what it always
comes to...a perpetual boring, unproductive, uncreative,
mediocre life not worth living.
Change
this permanent state of being to:
- I am
not feeling fulfilled at the moment, so I will look around
at some new things to try or learn. I will not wait for
the feeling "now I want to do them", I will simply
get at it, try anyway and see what develops.
- I am
ashamed and embarrassed to say that I hate that about myself
I can't stand that about me
I still am making
stupid decisions
Change
this permanent state of being to:
- Up to
now, I have behaved in a way that I am not proud of and
so as of today I will learn to do better.
- There
is no use when the world is so full of hate and destruction.
Change
this permanent state of being to:
- There
are things I cannot change in this world but I can make
the area directly around me a pleasant, loving place for
people to come. I will do what I can to make this world
better starting with my attitude towards the world.
- I am
too fat to beloved. I am too skinny to be loved.
Change
this permanent state of being to:
- I am
what I am today because of decisions and actions that I
have made in the past. Today I will start to be the best
that I can be each and every day and I will learn to love
who I am through each stage of my development.
Let us make a promise to ourselves during this spring time
of rebirth and growth that the next time we start to hear
ourselves think thoughts that do not
nourish and support who we are that we will stop and take
a moment to change those thoughts to something that will
enable us to create solutions with more positive actions.
Negative thoughts that hound you are not guilt from God
and they are not about faith. Those negative thoughts come
from inner fears and our focus on what we lack and we want.
They may even be a simple way for your brain to attack you
to get you to slow down and get some rest. Do not be a prisoner
to your mind and the self-inflicted pain from the weapons
that it throws.
Which
thoughts do you get rid of? Get rid of any thought that
does not offer constructive solutions and nurture who you
are or who you will become. Anything less than a nurturing
statement will take away from your ability to do better
and your ability to be all that you can be.
